Wither Plastician? (and his album?)

Totally jonzing for it. Plastician AKA Plasticman was what got me into dubstep AND grime for real, and I think he remains my favorite producer in the scene, for the combination of three reasons: 1) Because he kind of falls in both and at the same time neither scene and 2) His stuff is genuinely weird, it goes all over the place, mashes up strange samples, makes use of crazy synths and patches that no one else does and 3) is totally geared around making people DANCE. He and Mark One rolled through the now defunct Volume in Brooklyn in March of 2004 and blew my mind with 2 1.5 hour tag team sets. 3 hours of beats I'd NEVER heard which made one of the diversest crews I've seen at a show dance dance dance. AND AND!!!! NO MCs for almost the entire night, except when Joe Nice's friend got up on the mic for a bit. Not too many rewinds either, so a very solid flow established. Just perfect. It's stayed with me ever since. '04 and '05 had me buying everything and loving what Chris put out, and for the last 18 months there really hasn't been much, just the great EP on N19 (check Boomkat for samples) and a whisper of an album now for over a year. Apparently it's called "Beg to Differ" and there's been an album release party already. Mark One's already two albums in, Chris if you read this, you're biggest fan is waiting patiently! If anyone has info, please post it in the comments. Terrorhythm, his label and website, is down ATM, so don't go looking there for answers. But he does have a recent podcast from his radio show up here though, grab it!

UPDATE: The Man himself sets the record straight in the comments, and boy is it ever a long involved story. Check it, and check the album out soon!

Yo Kid, somebody pointed me in the direction of this post!

We had major major trouble with the album which is why it has been continually delayed...

First up we waited over 3 months for artwork we wanted by december, we ended up getting it mid february. The reason we waited so long was the artist who produced the artwork is a highly respected grafitti artist and I was really excited about him being involved in the project!!

Once the artwork arrived we went about mastering... the first master came back and one of the tracks was missing... 2 weeks later the finished master arrived but some tracks had short clips missing from the beginning of the songs... I then was away for a week and came back to sit in and make sure it got finished - all in mastering took nearly 6 weeks off the schedule and meant that we missed our aimed release date in june.

So come June we took the master to a manufacturer who told us it would take 14 - 21 days for manufacture of the CD, 21 days later we call up to ask if it's ready for collection and they start asking questions about "Japan" and whether the sample had been cleared or not (it took them 21 days to even listen to it???).

So we take the album off of that manufacturer and take it to another... who then tell us they no longer have the capability to barcode the CD's in house... so we take the artwork to a company which barcodes and then delivered the full package back to the manufacturer who tells us it will take 14 days to manufacture...

7 days have passed now so hopefully in the next 7 days I'll have a copy of the CD in my hand finished and ready and I can inform everyone of a CONFIRMED release date!!!

PHEW! As you can see, its been a real up hill struggle. I've been making more stuff in the last couple of months though - check the rinse podcast from monday just gone and you'll hear "Missing" and "The Clouds" My latest two tracks!

Hope you're all good man - glad to hear you're eagerly awaiting the album! I'm in the States in November, just arranging some dates now - LA and San Fran are definites so far.

Big Up!!
